The virtual planning of the European Week of Sport 2020 has started

On 9-10 June, the Sport Unit of the European Commission organised an online seminar for the national coordinators and partners of the European Week of Sport in order to start the preparations for this year's #BeActive campaign. ENGSO is a partner of the initiative from its start in 2015 and we are very excited to join this constantly developing campaign for the sixth time.


Unlike last year when the seminar was held in the beautiful Portuguese city of Sintra, this time we gathered in front of our computers to discuss the upcoming #BeActive campaign. Over a hundred participants from across Europe joined the online seminar, and had a highly inspirational two-day meeting. At ENGSO, we particularly appreciate that both days started with a quick #BeActiveAtHome session.



At the start on the first day, a colleague of the Sport Unit, Paola Ottonello stated that this year's motto regarding the #BeActive campaign will be "flexibility, flexibility, flexibility", given the unprecedented circumstances we are under. A great example of this flexibility was showcased in the beginning of the online seminar as we have heard about the initial plans for the Official Opening of the Week and the Presidency Conference around it, and then about how these plans are being adapted to our current realities. Later on, some great examples of the #BeActiveAtHome campaign were showcased, and then, the participants were randomly split into two groups. While one group was brainstorming on how to engage more people to join the #BeActive campaign, the other one worked on effective communication. The programme of the first day finished with a session dedicated solely to campaigning in the Western Balkans and the Eastern Partnership countries.



The second day focused on the elements of an effective communication campaign and the #BeActive Awards. We have discussed the visual elements of the campaign and the involvement of ambassadors. In the parallel workshop sessions, we were given useful tips on new ways to spread the campaign message on social media and to improve our story-telling.


The seminar gave us plenty of inspiration to make the European Week of Sport 2020 campaign a great one using innovative tools and techniques, aiming to engage as many Europeans as possible in a #BeActive lifestyle.
