The NOC of Kosovo organised the "Olympic Festival PyeongChang 2018"

Kosovo made its Winter Olympics debut in PyeongChang, being represented by skier Albin Tahiri. During the Games, from 9 to 25 February the NOC of Kosovo organised an event entitled “Olympic Festival PyeongChang 2018” in Pristina. The Olympic Festival was held during the marking of Kosovo’s 10th year anniversary as an independent country, that was celebrated on 17th February.

At the Olympic festival, over ten thousand children had the opportunity to practice three winter sports - curling, ice hockey and ice skating -, on the improvised playing areas in the Zahir Pajaziti square in Pristina.

Despite low temperatures, children participated in the activities every day and got to try new sports. The event was visited by Kosovo’s first Olympic champion, judoka Majlinda Kelmendi as well, who tried out curling.

Shqipe Bajçinca-Brestovci, Executive Board member of the NOC Kosovo talked about the purpose and the success of the festival:

“The goal of the Festival was to introduce children to ice skating, ice hockey and curling. Approximately 8760 children participated in ice skating, while 4795 took part in curling. Children’s participation in these sports fulfills Kosovo Olympic Committee’s goals”.

Edona Haxha, a volunteer of the event, described the festival as an “extraordinary experience, especially for the children”.

The Kosovo Olympic Committee was among those four National Olympic Committees - along with the NOC of the Czech Republic, France and Slovenia - that have organised an Olympic Festival PyeongChang 2018.
