The EU Work Plan for Sport 2017-2020 Adopted by the Counil of Ministers

In the previous months, the European sport movement was very much looking forward to the new EU Work Plan for Sport. On the 23th of May in the meeting of the Education, Youth, Culture and Sports Committee (EYCS) of the Council the sports ministers adopted the document.

The 20 page Work Plan contains a 7 page annex, where the three main priorities for the upcoming period - 1 July 2017 - 31 December 2020 - are set, along with key topics within the priorities and outputs linked to them. The three priorities of these 3,5 years are the integrity of sport, the economic dimension of sport and sport & society.

Within the first priority the key topics are anti-doping, good governance, safe-guarding of minors and the specificity of sport. Within the second priority the key topics are innovation in sport and sport & the digital single market, while in the third priority emphasis is given to sport and media, the role of coaches, education in and through sport, social inclusion, sport and health, sport and environment and sport diplomacy.

Outputs linked to the priorities include exchange of best practices, guidelines, Council conclusion, reports and future strategies.

The Work Plan is concluded by the list of principles on the working methods, structures and reporting of activities to be carried out in relation to the Work Plan.
