Dear friends of ENGSO,
It’s a pleasure for me to address you for the first time in my new position as ENGSO President. It’s an honour and an exciting challenge to lead such a dynamic organisation in this period of time. Many surely agree when I say that ENGSO is in a turning point in its lifetime as an organisation.
At this year’s General Assembly earlier this month, we saw a number of senior members of the ENGSO family take a step in the background. I would like to mention especially my predecessor Carlos Cardoso, who has been an engaged supporter and developer of ENGSO in the Executive Committee for the past 16 years.
The newly composed Executive Committee makes a competent team that will drive ENGSO forward, with the progressive Strategy 2020–2023 as our map. The unique ambiance of the General Assembly reflected the continued support from our members, and a sense of doing things together. During the weekend we also said farewell to our perhaps most successful project so far, celebrating the results of the ASPIRE project.
After a well-earned summer break, we will meet again in Rome for the 2nd European Sport Platform, on 4–5 October, hosted by OPES Italia. Please join us for interesting discussions and debates on the topics of volunteering, diversity and mental health! The registration will open in July. Also this year we are counting on the support of the European Lotteries, our partner and the representative of lotteries that ensure the sustainable funding of grassroots sport in Europe.
During the autumn we will accelerate the activities in our numerous projects, most notably the ENGSO-led CHAMP, and make sure that the new decision-makers in the European Parliament and Commission understand the societal role of grassroots sport and its different benefits to individuals and communities. So please stay tuned, keep reading our newsletter, and engage with us on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
For now, I wish you all a #BeActive and relaxing summer!
