NOC Albania celebrated World Walking Day

On 4 October 2020, our member, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Albania organised an event in celebration of the World Walking Day to promote sport for all, and to hand down messages of peace and hope through sport.

World Walking Day is an initiative of our partner organisation, TAFISA, and it is the most inclusive and accessible walk around the globe.

The event in Albania brought together about a hundred people of different ages at the event site, all respecting health-related measures, such as social distancing and wearing masks. Many people who could not take part in the event in person, joined the initiative on social networks by using the #worldwalkingday hashtag. Some high-profile athletes participated in the campaign as well and encouraged everyone to practice physical activities.

The event consisted of a 2-km walk, and along the way, 9 stops were dedicated to different sports activities, namely archery, canoeing, cycling, basketball, karate, taekwondo, judo, running and long jump. During the event, Albanian athletes educated participants about Olympic values, such as fair play, respect and gender equality.

The Albanian NOC was able to count on the support of the national sport federations and Special Olympics Albania to hold the event and is very grateful for their support.

The message of the event was clear: the current health situation affects us all, but sport can unite us in these challenging times by providing some hope. And we shall be thankful for all medical workers who are fighting the pandemic in the frontlines.
