For the third consecutive year, EL Members encourage Europeans to #BEACTIVE

Driven by its core values, society, integrity, responsibility, EL Members, for the third consecutive year supported the European Week of Sport. As an EWOS partner, EL and its Members actively promoted sport and physical activity all over Europe, through communication activities and national/regional events, sending out the message for increased physical activity to European citizens, regardless of age, gender, background and abilities.

Following the promotion of the EWOS at a national level in 2015 and 2016, EL Members once again planned diverse activities. Indeed, having in mind the increasing rates of youth inactivity and the costs related to it, many EL Members attached an emphasis on special activities for youth. In Greece, OPAP, activated its network of 125 amateur sport academies across the country, organising special activities for the children but also their parents, reaching 10,000 children and 20,000 parents. In the Czech Republic, also, people and especially children could select their new sport from the largest database of sport clubs in the counrty, a web project that EL-member SAZKA runs. Also, the national finals of one of the competitions of Sazka Olympic Multi-contest, an on-going project of SAZKA and Czech Olympic Committee leading as many children as possible to sports, was held at the special BEACTIVE village.

The Hungarian National Lottery, SZERENCSEJÁTÉK ZRT. co-operated with the Hungarian University Sports Federation in order to encourage and inspire students to get active during the campaign. SZERENCSEJÁTÉK re-launched the #BEACTIVE– Become a champion every day! programme which included a unique sports competition among all Hungarian Universities and Colleges. The event also strongly focused on introducing students to a range of disability sports in order to offer a unique opportunity for an interaction between young people with different abilities all enjoying exercising.

Finally, on September 23, in Portugal, Jogos Santa Casa, like the past years, sponsored a very popular and typical short bicycle run, called “Climbing up to the “Glory “, which attracted numerous cyclists.
