A sports forum opened the European Week of Sport in Kosovo

On 23 September, a sports forum was organised by our member, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Kosovo in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS) in the Kosovan capital, Pristina. The event marked the opening of the European Week of Sport.

The conference covered two topics, namely “sports and the COVID-19 pandemic”, and “national strategy for sport, good governance and gender equality”.

In her speech, Ms. Vlora Dumoshi, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport stressed that an emergency package allocated for sports will be distributed to clubs.

The panel about the COVID-19 pandemic included various high-profile speakers, for instance, Minister Dumoshi; the President of NOC Kosovo, Mr. Besim Hasani and the Minister of Health, Mr. Armend Zema. Minister Zemaj stated that sports activities are allowed to be carried out, but with strict measures. His announcement was very welcomed by the attendees.

The second panel discussion involved some high-level representatives of the Kosovan sporting world as well, including the Secretary General of NOC Kosovo, Mr. Shasivar Haxhijaj and representatives of the MCYS and various national sports federations.

Mr. Driton Kuka, coach of the nationwide respected Olympic champion judoka, Majlinda Kelmendi, greeted the conference participants through a video message and called for the resumption of sports activities during the European Week of Sport, encouraging everyone to #BeActive.
