The 22nd ENGSO General Assembly, organised in Nice, France, on 16-17 May 2014, showcased an overview of ENGSO's activities in 2013 and early 2014 and gave an opportunity to member organisations to discuss future developments and strategic choices of ENGSO.
On 16 May 2014 after the EU Seminar, ENGSO President Birgitta Kervinen officially opened the 22nd ENGSO General Assembly. Her opening speech was followed by a presentation from Friedrich Stickler, the President of the European Lotteries, ENGSO's important strategic partner. In his presentation, Mr. Stickler explained the important contribution the European Lotteries and its member organisations provide for sport throughout Europe. Following that, the floor was given to the representative of the hosting organisation, Claude Azema from the French Olympic Committee, who also welcomed the participants. With this, ENGSO would like to cordially thank the French Olympic Committee for their hospitality and outstanding hosting of the 22nd ENGSO General Assembly.
On 17 May 2014, representatives from 23 national sports organisations gathered to fulfil their responsibilities as ENGSO members. Besides approving the annual report of ENGSO and ENGSO Youth, the accounts of 2013 and the budget for 2014, member organisations were given the opportunity to share information on recent sport developments in their respective countries. Thanks to the active participation of the representatives, important issues were raised from Albania, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Lithuania and Sweden. As ENGSO lays great emphasis on equality and democratic participation in sport, the General Assembly also offered the possibility to other sports organisations to introduce themselves and their activities, such as to the European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF), the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE), the European Women and Sport Network (EWS) and the Peace and Sport.
The second part of the meeting focused on discussions of future developments and strategic choices of ENGSO. Before the General Assembly, a member survey was carried out with the aim to inquire on members' opinions with what should be the key priorities of ENGSO in the future, how membership structure and fees should be arranged, and how member organisations could make ENGSO stronger. After ENGSO Secretary General Helena Carlsson presented the results of the ENGSO member survey, a warm discussion took place in this field.
ENGSO would like to thank all partakers for their active participation in the meeting. We cordially welcome you to the 17th ENGSO Forum, which will take place on 27-29 October 2014 on a boat between Stockholm and Helsinki.
